As many older adults continue to age we continue extend life and try to allow as much healthy living as possible. Throughout the past century technology has advanced further than anyone has anticipated. This technology can be used to change senior living.
Virtual reality can transport residents into their hometowns and allow them to relive these locations without actual travel. This also gives opportunities for friends and family to interact with the resident through technology use. VR can continue stimulating the brain for these older adults to continue learning and exercising brain functions.
The use of artificial intelligence for older adults in housing can provide easier accommodations for residents. Older adults can use this for cooking, eating, falls, and more. This can be used to prevent falls or call for help if one occurs. Using this for temperature controls, remotes, locking doors or more can help aid the residents to help them keep up with activities of daily living and other instrumental activities. Voice assistance is available in many smart houses that can help with this as well, the possibilities are limitless.
Intergenerational spaces are the last on this list that can benefit residents to continue healthy living while aging in place. This can allow older adults to mentor younger adults while the older adults are being protected and watched out by the other generations that reside there. This can provide assistance that could not be available in other housing options. Integrating different generations can allow adults to continue learning and helping even at an older age.
